The University of British Columbia has signed a six year $40m (Canadian) document management and print services contract with Xerox Enterprise Print Services to improve its document facilities and support its green credentials.
The enterprise print services ( EPS) partnership with Xerox is expected to save the university 8m Canadian dollars over the six years through better managed document and print services across its campus.
The University of British Columbia (UBC), which has 50,000 students across two main sites, also expects that efficiency improvements will lead to reduced energy consumption and carbon footprint emissions which is integral to the university's sustainability strategy.
"We chose Xerox because of its customer service leadership, proven experience, ability to drive cost savings, environmental benefits and consistent processes while creating a platform for document management," said Pierre Ouillet, UBC vice president for finance, resources and operations.
Ouillet said the Xerox deal covers nearly every aspect of the document lifecycle, including printing, copying, scanning, faxing, design and delivery of print materials, as well as electronic storage and retrieval. The move "means printing and document management campus-wide will be consistent, affordable and reliable", he said.
Xerox will design a print environment with the appropriate number of output devices, like printers, fax machines, copiers and scanners, to help students and staff work more efficiently. Xerox will also develop a near site document production facility for high volume print requirements.
