Google acquires cloud-based Microsoft Office document collaboration firm DocVerse to expand Google Apps
Cloud-based document sharing firm DocVerse has been acquired by Google, which will integrate the firm's technology into its Google Docs and Apps offering in the cloud.
DocVerse was founded by ex-Microsoft employees three years ago, with the main aim of making it easier for Microsoft Office users to share and collaborate on their documents over the web.
In a company blog, DocVerse said, "We fundamentally believe that Google is one of the best positioned companies to truly disrupt the world of productivity software. We’re looking forward to the opportunity to scale our vision at Google. Our first step will be to combine DocVerse with Google Apps to create a bridge between Microsoft Office and Google Apps."
Google acquired the firm for a reported $25m. Google's acquisition of DocVerse will have an impact on some existing DocVerse customers. DocVerse has explained the aftermath here.
