Xerox firm ACS says it can save truck fleets up to 25% on document management and processing costs by using its new in-cab scanning system.

ACS, along with PeopleNet, a provider of web-based and integrated onboard computing and mobile comms systems, has created an in-cab scanning and automated indexing solution for PeopleNet users to expedite customer billing.

"In-cab scanning gives drivers the added convenience of completing their paperwork without ever having to leave their truck," said Kelley Walkup, division vice president and general manager for ACS. "Giving drivers another way to quickly and easily submit their paperwork improves the bottom line for any carrier."

The ACS TripPak SCANNING platform combines the capabilities of PeopleNet’s communications as well as PACOS geofencing and automated messaging integration. Drivers scan documents directly from the cab on the ACS TripPak SCANNING Model 467 Scanner, which is connected to the PeopleNet BLU device.

ACS said the combination of the technologies promotes a seamless integration from the cab to the back office, which drives greater return on investment and advances paperless environments for truck fleets.

ACS has also introduced a new smartphone application that allows drivers to image and process paperwork from any location with mobile phone coverage.

Using the TripPak Mobile smartphone application, drivers can use their phone camera and a specially designed clipboard to capture and send high-quality images of their paperwork. The documents are sent through the TripPak processing portal, which stores the image and forwards it to the appropriate department within the fleet.
