Home The News General DM News US firms offered secure email service for electronic documents with US Postal Service protection

US businesses are being offered a secure email service protected by the US Postal Service to send important electronic documents.

Epostmarks has introduced Postmarked Email, which combines the protection of the US Postal Service and Goodmail's CertifiedEmail platform.

Postmarked Email safeguards email messages using US Postal Service Electronic Postmark (EPM) technology, an auditable time and date stamping service that verifies the authenticity of electronically transmitted documents and files.

The combination of Goodmail's CertifiedEmail and EPM provides legally compliant email messaging, being fully protected and guaranteed by the US Postal Service. Jason Curtis, CEO of Epostmarks, said, "By combining the legal strength and enforcement of the US Postal Service with Goodmail's CertifiedEmail platform, a new benchmark for trust has been established in email."

Postmarked Email appears with CertifiedEmail's Blue Ribbon icon in a user's email inbox, and allows protected email to display the widely recognised US Postal Service eagle logo. Electronically tampering with USPS EPM protected email carries a similar legal penalty to tampering with traditional mail.

Gregory Crabb, inspector in charge of revenue fraud and cyber intelligence at the US Postal Inspection Service, said, "With the federal authority and protection of the Postal Service, Postmarked Email will bring a new level of trust to electronic communications, ensuring a safer online experience for US citizens."

Postmarked Email is sent with a cryptographically secure token supplied by Goodmail that ensures the authenticity of a message. The service is available via ISPs, social networking portals, web portals like Yahoo, phone companies and other service providers.

Electronic Postmarks issued by an authorised EPM service provider are stored in their data repositories and available for verification for up to seven years from the date of issuance. The USPS EPM system serves as the backup verifier for all postmarks.
