IT services providers need to change strategies to meet the needs of users when it come to delivering cloud-based software and services, says analyst Ovum (www.ovum.com).
Ovum says IT services providers, particularly those offering systems integration (SI) services, need to change tack to ensure that the trend toward cloud computing services does not negatively impact their business.
John Madden, an Ovum analyst, said, "Steps for providers include becoming an innovator in the development of cloud computing services, and creating and supporting cloud services eco-systems among various IT vendors."
"Global systems integration firms in particular are worried that cloud services could irrevocably alter the SI business as we know it."
Madden says the traditional SI model of tying together disparate IT systems is not going away any time soon due to cloud services, as the market for such services is still too young. "However, some customers that leverage cloud services in theory will no longer need a system integrator for complex, time-consuming and costly integration of their internal IT systems", Madden said.
Julian Buck, General Manager from document management company, Version One, says, "Software companies, including document management providers, cannot ignore the market for cloud-based services. Version One already offers document management on a cloud platform and with the demand for this type of service expected to increase, we're well positioned to benefit from cloud-based revenue within the document management space."
