Law firm Clyde & Co avoids downed volcanic ash air courier firms with Accellion cloud document sharing

International law firm Clyde & Co. LLP has selected a cloud-based document sharing platform to avoid having to rely on air courier services that were grounded because of the volcanic ash.

The Accellion secure file transfer system will be used to quickly and securely share confidential documents with clients. Accellion had previously enabled the firm to avoid business disruption when the courier company they relied on to share urgent legal documents was grounded, as a result of ash clouds from the EyjafjallajÖkull volcano in Iceland.

When initially using Accellion’s hosted cloud service the firm was able, within minutes, to access the Accellion secure file transfer system in the cloud.  As a result, Clyde & Co. was able to quickly return to business and avoid disruptions caused by air transportation problems that affected much of the world.

Since air travel resumed in Europe, Clyde & Co. has now fully deployed the Accellion system and is no longer reliant on shipping and courier services as a way to transfer information too large for email. In addition, the firm is already experiencing increased email network performance.

Phil Newnham, IT manager at Clyde & Co., said, “With the Accellion solution we are now able to securely send large files to clients without consuming valuable disk space and network bandwidth, and without the need to attach the files to emails. The ability to transfer files to clients using Accellion has also dramatically reduced the workload on our Exchange servers.”
