The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the nursing and midwifery regulator for over 660,000 registered nurses and midwives in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Islands, has signed a five year contract worth up to £5.2 million with Business Systems Group (BSG), an Advanced Computer Software plc company.

BSG will be managing and hosting NMC’s core IT infrastructure across two different data centres. This will include the managing and hosting of NMC’s servers and networks, disaster recovery, systems monitoring, technical design and ongoing consultation. BSG will also be providing database and operating system support and managing NMC’s Microsoft Exchange email, Citrix desktops and telephony (using Cisco CallManager).

A survey by document management software company, Version One, highlights that over a quarter of UK senior finance professionals are unaware of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (formerly known as the Carbon Reduction Commitment). Version One carried out the research with 139 senior finance professionals (finance directors and managers) across a range of UK public sector and private sector organisations.

The survey reveals that 27% of senior finance professionals admit that they haven’t heard of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme. 17% of respondents state that they are aware of the Scheme and have investigated whether their organisation qualifies or not, with almost half (48%) stating that they are aware of the CRC Scheme but are unsure whether their organisation qualifies. Oddly, the remaining 8% admit that they “don’t know” whether they have heard about the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme or not!

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has found Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) in breach of the Data Protection Act after an unencrypted laptop belonging to the former Chelsea Building Society (CBS), which had recently merged with YBS, was stolen from its Cheltenham premises. The laptop contained a substantial part of the CBS customer database.

The laptop was recovered within 48 hours after YBS appointed private investigators, and forensic investigations revealed that none of the data had been accessed during that time, although there had been several attempts to do so.

US law firm Higgs Fletcher & Mack LLP has selected Oce Business Services to provide a comprehensive range of mail and print/copy centre management services to reduce costs.

Founded in 1939, Higgs is one of the oldest and largest full service law firms located in San Diego. Under a three-year agreement, Oce will help streamline the law firm's document management processes, including a migration from desktop printers to shared, networked multi-function-devices that combine print, copy, scan and fax capabilities into one machine.

Kodak and CAPSYS have combined to create a new solution to allow users to scan and index from many locations using a web browser, while benefiting from a flexible batch capture platform.

The partnership sees Kodak's Capture Pro Software being integrated with the CAPSYS Capture thin-client document capture software application. The combined system is aimed at users wanting to scan, extract, classify and index data from both electronic and paper-based documents.
