A document management system (DMS) is a computer system (or set of computer programs) used to track and store electronic documents and/or images of paper documents.

The process whereby standardized forms of documents are transferred between systems. The ability to search for a document based on an arbitrary set of keywords, against the document's content text.. Proxomity rules may also be added to the search criteria. Some vendors provide fuzzy logic and weighting algorithms for approximate searching.
